Mr. Bill’s Travel Blog has moved and is under construction!
As you have probably noticed by now, Bill’s Travel Blog is under construction! We have moved to a self-hosted WordPress site. Although most of the content was able to be moved, we lost photographs and our “theme.” Please, bear with us as we get the kinks worked out!
Bill’s Travel Blog is now aptly named “Mr. Bill’s Travel Blog.”
(Because that’s what Denise lovingly, or maybe jokingly calls me! Mr. Bill.) Our mission has stayed the same. We want to bring you first-hand information on our travel destinations, not just photos, and stories from our travels. We want you to be able to “know before you go!” So, my blog posts will include information on hours, facilities, handicap accessibility and what you can expect to see when you get there!
This morning, I spent a little time rewriting the “About Us” section, and thought that this would be a perfect time to share it with you! If you have any comments or ideas on how we can improve our blog, please feel free to comment below!
I am an independent staffing consultant, amateur photographer, and now, a travel blogger! Denise, the prettier one, on my right, has worked for the Pasco County School Board for the last 30+ years! Denise and I met in early December 2008 online (Yes, online! See all you doubters, online dating does work! LOL). Denise and I talked for several weeks online before we had our first official date at Cristo’s -(See I remembered!) on January 9, 2009!
Denise and I share a passion for traveling. One of our favorite lines is… I’m not lost, I am exploring! Denise, the sensible one, has to have a destination. I say it’s not about the destination it is about the journey! (You know what, that’s what makes us a perfect pair!)
Road trips are our main way of discovering what lies in our own back yard. Florida is more than Orlando and Disney, believe it or not! We have enjoyed Orlando. Visiting Disney, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Sea World, and of course, Universal is always fun! But, Florida is home to a bounty of treasures. From the historical city of St. Augustine to the pristine beauty of the Florida Keys. (Did you notice that I started in North Florida and went all the ways to the Keys? There is so much to see and do in Florida, we have not even scratched the surface!
We especially love wild animal parks! We love the Big Cat Rescue, Wild Florida, Discovery Cove, and the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary, to name a few! But who doesn’t enjoy beautiful beaches or botanical gardens with cascading waterfalls? (Sunken Gardens, St. Petersburg, FL)
I started this blog as a hobby!
It was going to be a way to share my photos with the world. But, it has become so much more than that to me. In January of 2016, I had my left leg amputated below the knee. I have to say, it was a blessing for me! Even though I had struggled most of my life with limited mobility, having my leg amputated, amplified those issues for me!
Now, I had to think about things like…
How was I going to get up from a chair, or how would I get into bed? And, for that matter, how would I get out of bed? Little things like a taking a shower had to be rethought? Where could we stop to use a restroom? Would the restrooms be accessible? If we went to a historic town, would I be able to navigate the streets and enjoy the experience? These were small things, that I never had to think about before.
So, I decided to combine our love of travel and handicap accessibility along the way! My motto for travel has always been “know before you go!” and now, you can! I have never let my handicap “disable me” and I am not about ready to now! Let the adventures begin! (Well on weekends, during the holidays and spring break anyways!) LOL
Here is your chance to tell us where to go!
Now, we are going to put the ball in your court. Where would you like us to visit? Where is your hidden treasure that you would like to share with us! I love to capture our travels in photo and stories. I would love to tell a story about your favorite spot to “get away” in Florida and all across this great land. We love to meet new people along the way!
In conclusion, let me share with you the most important thing I have discovered. Where ever you go, whatever you see, share it with others! Don’t be afraid to stop and smell the roses or to share a smile with a stranger. Don’t forget to enjoy a meal with new friends and build memories together that will last a lifetime!
