A few years back we took a 1,600-mile road trip from Northern Vermont to Syracuse, NY and ending in Ossining, NY. In one of my previous blog post (What will you discover?), I posted some of our Vermont activities. In this post, I want to share one of our destinations in NY, the 1,000 Islands!
The 1,000 Islands is a beautiful vacation destination! (I know, the 1,000 what? Where? I’ve never heard of it! Vacation destination?) “The Thousand Islands are a group of over 1,800 islands in the St. Lawrence River, straddling the border of the U.S. and Canada. A fashionable retreat for the elite in the late 19th century, today the area is a hub for outdoor activities. It’s home to elaborate island mansions like the German-style Boldt Castle on Heart Island, and Singer Castle on Dark Island, with its Gothic windows and secret passageways.”
Of course, if you find yourself in the 1,000 Islands you will want to hop aboard one of Uncle Sam’s Riverboat cruises! What better way to explore the great St. Lawerence Seaway and the over 1,800 islands! (Unless you take one of the helicopter or balloon tours.) The boat tours offer an unlimited stop at Boldt Castle! You can hop off, take your time strolling around the Castle and grounds and get back on the riverboat at your leisure!
Here are a few links you might find helpful! Don’t just take my word for it, do your own research and “know before you go!”
Let me share with you the most important thing I have discovered. Where ever you go, whatever you see, share it with others! Don’t be afraid to stop and smell the roses, to share a smile with a stranger, a meal with friends and build memories together that will last a lifetime!
